The Donor Relations Coordinator shall be responsible for the overall coordination of fundraising activities for Mahaska Health Foundation including: Annual gifts and grants, Major and Planned gifts, Capital campaigns and administration of the Mahaska Health Foundation. In this capacity, he/she shall also serve in an advisory role to the CFO and the  President of Mahaska Health Board of Trustees in determining fund raising strategies.  


This position requires an individual who can aid strategic leadership to the development function, motivate key employees and volunteers, assist in developing detailed plans and enjoys contact with individuals and small and large groups. The Donor Relations Coordinator must be capable of communication of the mission, vision,and goals of Mahaska Health and the Mahaska Health Foundation.



o Work with and assist the Mahaska Health Foundation Board to develop a
comprehensive strategic plan for fund raising and long-term gift cultivation.
o Represent the hospital at special civic, social and community functions and develop an overall high
level of visibility within the Oskaloosa community.
o Cultivate and solicit major gift prospects to secure resources based on annual quantitative financial
o Assist in development of all fund-raising vehicles including annual fund, estate planning, capital
campaigns and various fund raisers.
o Develop and implement initiatives involving constituent and community leadership in Mahaska
Health growth and development opportunities.

o Assist in the identification, recruitment, and education of Foundation Board
Members and other key volunteers.
o Develop and recommend policies and procedures related to the Foundation
o Participate in community and professional organizations, promoting Mahaska Health and sharing
our health care mission to others
o Evaluate all aspects of departmental activities and make recommendations for
o Render timely reports regarding all aspects of the overall development activity at
regularly schedule meetings of the Foundation Board.
o Has a passion for our health care mission, working with volunteers, administration, and
hospital medical staff.
o Database Coordination
▪ Enter all gifts into database and ensure donor and prospect data is properly
▪ Produce segmenting mailing and emailing lists for customized cultivation,
solicitation and stewardship communications.
▪ Coordinate data integrity of donor system including: identifying and resolving
data inconsistencies, conducting monthly reconciliation with Finance, doing
routine maintenance, improving automation, and documenting processes and
supporting/training staff in their use.
▪ Provide standard weekly, monthly and annual reports (gift alerts, financial
historical analysis, data, pending benchmarks etc.) on Annual Fund, Capital
Campaign, and other Foundation departments, ensuring that the team has a
good assessment of revenue status.
▪ Suggest best practices and help develop policies/procedures.
▪ Manage hard copy and electronic donation files.
o Donor Stewardship & Communications
▪ Produce timely, personalized acknowledgment letters for donors and document
sending in documentation to the database.
▪ Maintain donor cultivation, stewardship and solicitation communications
▪ Generate reports to support scheduled stewardship engagements.
▪ Assist with in-house Stewardship Mailings.
▪ Track and coordinate Employee Giving Sign-Up pledges with finance and payroll.
▪ Format and prepare mass emails.
▪ Produce annual donor gift statements and periodic pledge reminders.
o Event Support
▪ Coordinate and take minutes for event committee meetings.
▪ Assist with volunteer recruitment and coordination day-of-event.
▪ Help research and reach out to new prospects for in-kind donations for events.
▪ Track, coordinate and package in-kind and auction for special events.
o All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


o Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
o Great interpersonal skills and ability to work well as part of a team.
o Ability to work well under pressure and manage sensitive or controversial subjects with tact, kindness,

and professionalism.
o Flexibility with your schedule is just as important as leadership skills and creativity.
o Bachelor’s degree in public relations, management, communications or business-related field
preferred. Professional certifications desirable.
o Proven success in gift cultivation vehicles including annual fund, estate planning,
capital campaigns, etc.
o Experience in volunteer leadership development.
o Field experience and success with personal solicitation of major gifts, grants, and fundraising
